Hold Me Tightly
Vera visits her husband Marik who suffers from advanced dementia at the assisted living facilities on their wedding anniversary – 50 years together. She grossly and audibly complains to those who are ready to listen about her ruined life with Marik. What if behind the irritation of a grossly swearing life-beaten old woman is hiding the tender and invincible feeling of love?

Ilya Tilkin is a seasoned composer, poet, director, and award-winning screenwriter. Graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory but turned to Television and created more than 15 documentaries. Worked for several years as a Chef Director of one of the TV branches, then proceeded his career in cinema and wrote over 30 top-rated series and movies. One of these - ’Stalingrad’ was on long-list for the Oscar and broke a domestic box office record. For now, Ilya is living in Israel and continuing his career as a director. ‘Hold Me Tightly’ is his second narrative short.
The script for this film was written by my student Erez Maharal, who had not previously written texts for the cinema. It was crystal clear to me from the first sight, that the heroes of this story are people intimately close to the author, and a sincere love for these slightly ridiculous people shines through the irony and a mocking tone. Russian-speaking residents of Israel, especially older people (including my parents), are a substantial and very colourful part of the modern Israeli society. However filmmakers rarely pay attention to them. Through this story, I want to tell the viewer that true love, which was tested by time and adversity, is sometimes very difficult to discern. And then, there is in an inner tender and invincible feeling of love, hiding behind the rough facade of irritated and swearing old woman visiting her husband, who suffers from dementia and lives in a nursing home. This is my second short film as a director, and the first in Israel.
