Highlining Tre Cime di Lavaredo

This film tells the story of the first highline between the Cima Grande and the Cima Piccola,
spanning 121 meters and connecting two of the three iconic towers of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
in the Dolomites. The line was rigged in June 2023.
The journey involved 15 pitches of alpine climbing, navigating unstable weather, hauling gear up
a 300-meter cliff, and enduring little sleep in an exposed bivi spot. Despite these challenges, the
team successfully rigged and walked this beautiful highline. This film documents their effort and
the stunning landscape of the Dolomites.

Director Biography - Marcial Sommer

Since 2016, I have been drawn to the craft of storytelling, through the means of photography
and filmmaking. I fell in love with the process, with the privilege to be able to freeze time, to
capture unique and inspiring stories for others to enjoy. I've had the privilege of embarking on
various projects that have taken me across the globe, allowing me to refine my craft along the
way.
Away from the camera, I find joy and inspiration in the realm of outdoor sports, particularly
climbing and highlining. There's an undeniable beauty that comes with scaling vertical cliffs or
walking a thin line suspended hundreds of meters above ground. These experiences not only
invigorate my spirit but also serve as a profound source of inspiration for my artistic vision.

Director Statement

When Bernhard called me to be part of this project, I immediately knew it was going to be
special. From the beginning I felt how much it meant to him. Bernhard has rigged some
incredible lines over the years, and this one he’s been planning for a while.
All he needed was a team that worked well together and a solid five-day weather window. There
were times where failure was near, but everyone’s spirit was always high - It’s incredible that
everything came together. Capturing the absolute breathtaking beauty of this line, between
those magnificent towers as the light turned golden - definitely a highlight of my filmmaking
career.
