Hidden Door is an independent multi-arts festival based in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2018 the festival will run for 10 days, from 25th May - 3rd June. The event takes place in different abandoned or disused spaces each year and has grown in size and reputation since it launched as an annual festival in 2014. Past venues include a set of abandoned vaults behind Waverley train station, a derelict street-lighting depot in Kings Stables Road and in 2017, the old Leith Theatre which had lain empty and forgotten for nearly 30 years which was transformed by Hidden Door with great critical acclaim into “Scotland’s best new live music venue”.
The venue for Hidden door 2018 is still to be confirmed with the organisers considering several exciting options in Edinburgh. Whichever building is chosen, spaces will be transformed and set up with high production standards to support the different programmes Hidden Door will offer, including live music, visual art exhibition spaces, dance, theatre and of course film.
Hidden Door is a volunteer-run initiative, and operates as a community interest company, which is a registered non-profit organisation. It’s vision is to open up spaces and create exciting opportunities for artists and creative practitioners to develop new projects, create new work and innovate their practise. Hidden Door is based in Scotland and aims to create opportunities for those living and working in Scotland, but it also is open to those based further afield. Hidden Door is also committed to creating dynamic audience experiences for the arts and increasing audience engagement with the arts.
