Jan Liesefeld, born 19.11.1983 studied audiovisual media at the academy of media arts in cologne, germany. Since 2009 he is working as a director, editor and composer for national TV, advertisment and in self-produced projects. Since 2016 he is film lecturer at the Akademie für Mode und Design.
Magdalena Fabry had the original idea, to create a short movie, that thematises the Hikikomori phenomenon. Based on this idea we wanted to tell the story of a young human being who locks himself inside his flat for no apparent reason. I know several persons who did this once in their lifetime, or at least seriously thought about doing it, so I felt like there is a certain universality to the theme, like a feeling everybody knows. On the other hand, there is this contradiction to the common digital selfexposure in social networks, and the „real“ lives of those people. So instead of staging a german Hikikomori case, we decided to workout this difference between the inside and the outside world of a totally normal person, who struggles with brining both worlds back together again.
