Colby Amburgey is a high school junior from Whitesburg, Kentucky. When Colby is not at school, he likes to spend his time baking and playing sports. He has always had a love for film and was excited to join the Appalachian Media Institute for the chance to share his ideas and creativity. Colby has been baking and selling his baked goods since the age of 12. He plans to one day go to pastry school and pursue his dream of owning a bakery. His passions have also recently expanded to include filmmaking.
Wolfgang Gunnar Miles is a musician, writer, and cinematographer from Eastern Kentucky. Wolfgang participated in duo interpretation and improv competitions and began attending classes at Full Sail University for his bachelor's degree in digital cinematography. He joined the band PinHead Poison as a performer, writer, and video cinematographer. He gained his first producing credits on the AMI production, “Heritage On A Plate” and the short film “Invisible Scars.” Wolfgang strives to live up to his creative potential. With an interest in music and film, he plans to continue pursuing artistic expression as a career, and is currently in the early stages of assembling a production team.
Tucker Manson: "I wanted to produce a film about Appalachian food culture because in our area food has always been a way of bonding for everyone. Whether it's community meals, families passing recipes down to others, or loved ones bringing you your comfort foods when you accomplish great things or battling through tough loss."
Colby Amburgey: "My love for baking and food influenced me to tell the story of our heritage and our cuisine. Some of my favorite things to bake are desserts that are home to Appalachia. I felt like the feeling that we get when we get to taste home needed to be shared. This has always been a passion of mine and this summer, I got to make it happen alongside the best teammates. Thank you to the Appalachian Media Institute for all their help producing and making this idea come to life."
Wolfgang Gunnar Miles: "This film was an important stepping stone in my filmmaking journey. It has granted me valuable experience in working with other young filmmakers who also share my love for the art form. I was mostly drawn to this film due to the impressive work of my teammates and their love for the subject. Interviewing, filming, and editing this project was a beautiful experience. It has not only built upon my filmmaking experience, but it has also bettered my knowledge of the meals and agriculture that surround Appalachia. Watching the brilliant ideas of my teammates come to life on screen has inspired me to never settle for less than I can give."
