Experiencing Interruptions?

Heredity

Heredity is an experimental indie short film which portrays the personal struggle, both physically and mentally, faced by the main character who has chronic depression and is suffering multiple symptoms.

The story is led by a male teen who relies on the extensive care by his elder sister. In the middle comes the dramatic twist between two timelines - timeline 1 (with first ending) describes how the teen without the privilege of obtaining healthy treatment carries his mental illness to his adulthood (portrayed as a working-class individual) and in the end commits suicide due to endless pain in him; whereas timeline 2 (with post-credits ending) describes how the teen is gradually getting mentally and physically better with her elder sister's help, thanks to the previous experience of taking care of their mentally ill father (portrayed as the working-class individual).

This short film aims to remind audience of the importance of appropriate treatment for, as well as the correct knowledge about, people with mental health disorders to prevent symptoms from worsening and providing help as soon as possible; otherwise it might lead to much worse consequences, like committing suicide. On the other hand, it also aims to educate audience about the possibility of depression or other mental health disorders to pass on by heredity, which is a scientific fact less known by the public.
