Here It's a Bed of Roses
Once a writer with soaring dreams, Kağan now stumbles through life as a lonely business professor. His pen has long been silent. But his stagnant world is shattered by the unexpected arrival of Burçin, a friend from his past. Burçin's motives are shrouded in secrecy, his silences heavy with unspoken truths. As Burçin pushes Kağan to rediscover his passion for writing, a flicker of desire ignites between them, blurring the lines of their friendship. The arrival of a new woman throws their dynamic into further disarray, forcing Kağan to confront his desires.

Çağlar Çetin-Ayşe is a US-based artist, academic, and activist from Turkey. He is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Augustana College (Rock Island, Illinois). He began working at an early age in television screenwriting, short filmmaking, and acting and directing for theater. He received his Bachelor degrees in Film and Television and Management of Performing Arts from Istanbul Bilgi University. He holds Master's degrees in Visual Arts (from Sabancı University, Istanbul) and Sociology (from Stony Brook University). A recipient of the Fulbright scholarship, he received a doctorate degree in sociology from Stony Brook University. His activist, artistic, and research interests mainly focus on gender and racial justice. "Here It’s a Bed of Roses" is his first feature film.
This is a story inspired by my own life. Not being indifferent to the current political tensions and oppression in Turkey, it revolves around two universal themes—friendship and dreams. I attempt to explore two opposite sides that I believe are the common grounds of friendships and dreams: the side that nourishes people and the side that consumes them. This exploration is accompanied by my life-long obsession with examining masculinity and masculine fragility. I believe originality and sincerity are the greatest strengths of this considerably low-budget feature.
