Heavy Is The Head
4 years after they begin college together, our show begins before Brandon Cross and Riley Sekibo graduate. One day after graduation, the two will get married. Brandon is excited to finally meet Riley’s family, who are from Africa. After their wedding, their reception turns into a grand announcement when Riley reveals that she is a princess, which makes Brandon a royal consort, or Prince. Following the wedding, Brandon must travel to Kumrobha, Africa to begin his training for his duties. While Riley’s mom and little brother, Queen Adanna and Prince Zain, warmly welcome Brandon, King Robi is not so welcoming. This is due to the fact that it is frowned upon for royalty to marry outside of their race and common folk. When they arrive, Brandon does feel as if he is not welcome, especially from Naiser and Mandisa, two Chancellors in the royal court. Mandisa has always wanted her son Taj to marry Riley and become the Prince. In the pilot, we learn that Naiser and Mandisa have their own hidden motives for power. Brandon feels as though it’s all a bit much too fast, as he is still upset with Riley for not telling him sooner. He realizes that all of this could not only affect their marriage, but his ability to be a good Prince.

My name is Richard Bourgeois Jr, I’m 26 years old, and I am from and reside in New Orleans, Louisiana. I’ve always been an entertainer, from birth. My family and I remember when I was just a little boy, pinning sheets up in the living room to resemble a curtain. I would then “perform” a skit or monologue that I wrote up. I would turn those into small scripts for church or school. My 4th-grade gym teacher allowed myself and about 10 other kids to skip gym class for a month to rehearse for a play that I wrote. I joined the Talented Theatre state program in the 5th grade. It was a rigorous audition process that either some kids didn’t make or it took multiple chances. I was very determined and made it in on my first try. I was in the program until I graduated from high school.
My work experience includes Apple Inc, FedEx Office, Nike, Dave & Buster’s, LEGO, and Amazon. During my time working, I was an extra in many productions, including The Butler, Queen Sugar, Preacher, Django Unchained, and Zoo.
Ever since I was young, I’ve always written songs, wrote skits, and created film plots. I had so many marble composition notebooks with ideas and drawings. I didn’t know it then, but those were my first “dream boards”. I’ve actually never completed any of my scripts, until now. I feel so strongly about ‘Heavy Is The Head’ that I’ve had sleepless nights coming up with ideas for the script.
My dream is to be a fresh and contemporary entertainer. I want to be like Tyler Perry, the writer, producer, director, and actor in my productions. As a young black man, the roles are not only limited but often predictable. I want to change that. If there is a role “meant” for a young white male, I want to be that much of a talented actor that I can portray it. Since there aren’t many of those opportunities, I have to create them. That’s why I am determined to improve my writing skills so that I can create the content that resonates best with myself and my people.
