Ethan Cooper was born and raised in Athens, Ohio. From an early age he developed an obsession with film, writing, and all forms of storytelling in general. His passion was so great that he missed many days of middleschool attendance by hiding himself in the bathroom all day so he could write screenplays. This eventually brought him to Interlochen Arts Academy where he could apply himself fully to honing his artistic voice. It was there that he met actors, musicians, and fellow filmmakers who he would go on to collaborate with on his debut film "Heaven".
Unfortunately, a few months into post-production Ethan's life was tragically cut short. His cause of death was acute accidental fentanyl poisoning. He left behind this film which was intended to be the first of many, but is now his last. Over the past 6 months, his friends and family have worked to complete it, to honor his memory and to share his story with the world.
This is that film. This is his story.
“I think I write about youth the most. Everything that comes with that- anger, hedonism, impulsiveness- can make for a great story. A lot of my desire to create stories about these things is because of how many people get it wrong. I always feel like I have so much to say but never do. So I hope to say it through my work. There’s so much danger in young people and there’s so much that’s misunderstood simply because the problems change with every generation. Of course my thoughts on this will mature as I get older, so I think I should start making these films now.
As an artist, I want to connect with people. Whenever I was unhappy I used to hide away and watch movies all day, as a way to push out the outside world. I realize now that I should be using my passion for the exact opposite, to connect with my environment and the people I meet.”
