Health Care State

The policy of social well-being, brings the need for a quality health program that is public and free, which is documented in the speeches of residents from the communities of Jardim Alfredo and Jardim Angela, peripheries of the South Zone of the city of São Paulo, considered, in 1996, by the UN, as the most violents neighborhoods in the world, due to the high homicide rates.
The Unified Health System (SUS) is responsible for promoting well-being as a state policy. Based on the United Kingdom's National Health System (NHS), the SUS serves around 80% of the Brazilian population, more than 150 million people with their basic right to health respected and universally promoted, being internationally recognized as fundamental factor for the reduction of inequalities in Brazil. Even with the positive results, such as the UN approval, reduction of infant mortality and eradication of some diseases, public health has been under attack by the National State itself, being scrapped with cuts in public budget spendings and equipping functions, actions that promote the false need for privatization of this public service.
