Outside of filmmaking, he is a licensed EMT First Responder and an accomplished martial artist, earning a gold medal at the JJWL Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship and training in Muay Thai kickboxing, Judo and boxing.
Through Healing Sunset, Rufino continues to explore stories centered on resilience, humanity, and personal transformation.
I am a storyteller who uses film as a vehicle to inspire, provoke, and enhearten audiences. With cinema, I seek to create stories that resonate on a human level—stories that invite reflection, empathy, and connection.
My approach to filmmaking is grounded in universal experiences that audiences from all backgrounds can relate to. Within these stories, I also weave elements of Latino and Indigenous culture, offering additional perspectives that reflect the complexity and richness of the modern world. These cultural influences help shape the emotional landscape of my work while honoring the traditions and histories that inform my voice as a filmmaker.
With Healing Sunset, I wanted to explore themes of resilience, healing, and the quiet strength that people discover in moments of hardship. The film reflects my belief that storytelling can serve not only as entertainment, but also as a space for reflection and transformation.
As a filmmaker, my goal is to continue creating work that bridges cultures, highlights shared humanity, and leaves audiences with a sense of hope, understanding, and emotional truth.
