Sharmin Rahman is an artist and art enthusiast who has been involved in various art activities for more than a decade. Born and brought up in Chittagong, Bangladesh, Sharmin had a knack towards art since her childhood. She was into vocal training programmes from an early age and had been awarded a National Award for Regional Songs in 1989. She went on to release her solo album titled "Eka Eka" in 2008 which consisted of 9 original compositions. Apart from singing, she had also been into painting from an early age. Some of her contemporary works were exhibited at "Foghorn" last year in Chittagong. Sharmin is also a writer and a poet who writes of topics related to love, mystery, philosophy, politics and society. She has released two books of poetry, "Oprakrito Koboch" and "Lal Scarf Aar Ekti Kore Shar". Sharmin had been into teaching music since the mid 90’s in many of the top schools in Dhaka and Chittagong and had served as the head of the Music, Art and Dance Department at DPS, Dhaka. Since 2012, she started working toward a greater goal of creating a space for artists where they could practice, showcase and create. With a group of enthusiastic volunteers she started organizing different projects under the banner of "Dhyan". The first project was called "Cheragi 1 Hour", a street show based in Chittagong. Other projects include exhibitions, workshops, photography competitions, weekly music and art classes, artist residencies and art camps. "Dhyan" has partnered in various art events with other organizations including “Foghorn”. She is also a freelance photographer. Her interest in photography pushed her toward the field of film making. She directed and produced a couple of short films, one of which, "Blur", made its place in the top 50 for screening among 1700 movies in Dhaka University International Short Film Festival. "Haurbola" marks her first professional film project as a writer and director.
