I have always wanted to create a piece set in a hotel or inn—a place where each room can represent a different world with its own unique stories. This captivating location allowed me to explore solitude, encounters, and human conflicts that, despite being confined within a seemingly limited space, appear boundless.

The idea for this film began with a foggy image: three elderly men sitting in the lobby of an inn, watching a football match. One of them sits melancholically while the other two try to cheer him up. A young man watches them from afar, bewildered. This mesmerizing image became the starting point for Harmonica, inspiring all the narrative and visual elements of the film.

Harmonica is a film centered on solitude and human interactions. From beginning to end, it has been an endeavor to delve deeper into understanding human beings and their relationships with one another. My aim from the outset was to create a visual experience that draws viewers into the characters' world. The film’s shot composition is shaped by its narrative and the unfolding of the story. Every scene, every cut, and every camera movement is carefully designed to reveal hidden layers of the characters and their relationships.

The lighting in Harmonica stems from an analysis and understanding of the screenplay. Using low light in the cinematography helped us craft a meaningful and profound atmosphere, emphasizing the characters’ loneliness and isolation. This symbolic darkness reflects their inner solitude and significantly enhances the film's emotional tone.

The central theme of the film is loneliness, a concept deeply explored throughout the story. Each character grapples with this idea in their own way, and this solitude becomes a driving force for the events and decisions that unfold. I find the setting of an inn or hotel intriguing because it brings together diverse people and stories, allowing for intertwined and parallel narratives. This space acts as a microcosm of society, where characters with different backgrounds and stories are portrayed simultaneously, each with a unique journey that ultimately connects with others.

I made this film because I believe cinema has a unique power to convey human experiences and foster a deeper understanding of our emotions and thoughts. Harmonica is not just a story about solitude and relationships; it is also an attempt to connect more profoundly with the audience, showing how each of us, even in loneliness, can create meaningful bonds. This note aims to provide the team with a clearer understanding of my directorial vision, so that every member can collaborate in crafting a memorable and heartfelt piece. I hope this film not only impacts viewers visually and narratively but also serves as a thought-provoking work of art that sparks discussions about human and social issues.
