Director Statement

Along with the development of increasingly advanced National films, there is a need for continuous contributions from the National film industry players, so that the Indonesian film ecosystem does not decline. The colors in the Indonesian film ecosystem will be more diverse with the presence of films that explore progressive and bold stories. The Gestok/Gestapu incident will be made into a Balinese historical film. This historic tragedy can be seen from the conflict between the two groups and the spread of the epidemic that existed in Bali in 1965 -1966. The feud will take more innocent victims that can lead them to destruction at that time. This film is a historical drama style with the concept of a silent film. The depiction of the historical context of “Gestok” or "Gestapu" will be used as a metaphor through symbols and gestures. The historical event that is conveyed using gestures is an attempt to speak a new and unique word. The history of this film will be enjoyed in a new way and from a different perspective, so that audiences can broaden their view of the hidden meaning behind this film. Apart from being a place for creativity, the screening of this film is expected to be a good means of knowledge for the wider community. I want to convey the message in the film that when we know the truth, silence does not mean being silent or not caring, but wise in making decisions, not being stupid and preparing something to defend against the tragedy.
