Moh Azima can trace his filmmaking ambitions to Disco Frankenstein, a play he wrote, directed and starred in for the school talent show when he was 8 years old. Years later he joined the drama department in high school and convinced the faculty to allow him to adapt M. Butterfly, a risqué subject for any public school setting. He made his filmmaking debut at Sundance with his short, TRAPPEDINFREEDOM.
HBDTM owes a great debt to films like "Get Out" and "Mother!" that are able to subvert genre to make a broader statement about culture, race, or society.
Our focus is on interpersonal relationships and examining the fragile state of our own sense of self. What happens when all of your reference points get twisted? Are you still you?
That question with the complicated balance of modern love when we’re armed with as much psychological weaponry as we are creates the tense and relatable scenario in which this story unfolds.
