This film marks my first step into the world of filmmaking, and it comes straight from my heart. I chose to tell this story because it is deeply personal a true reflection of a tragedy that hit close to home. It all began when a dear friend of ours a sweet, shy, and beautiful 17-year-old girl who always greeted us with a smile suddenly disappeared from our lives. When we learned on Facebook that she had taken her own life, it sent shockwaves through our community and left her family, and all of us who knew her, in disbelief.
In crafting this film, I wanted to capture that profound shock and lingering pain. I intertwined the gentle, magical aura of fairy tales with the harsh, unspoken reality of inner turmoil. The narrative follows a woman who, on the surface, appears to have everything a loving family and a calm, kind demeanor yet hides a storm of emotions within her. I believe this contrast reflects a truth we often ignore: even the most beautiful souls can carry silent, unbearable pain.
Taking on the theme of suicide was a bold and risky choice, especially for my first film. I knew it would challenge many expectations and might not be embraced by all festivals. Yet, I felt an urgent need to explore this subject. After a year of research and heartfelt conversations with people from around the world who have experienced similar struggles, I realized that the moment someone is drowning in silent despair often goes unnoticed until it's too late. The film doesn't offer neat answers or explanations it leaves you with a haunting question of "why?" mirroring the painful uncertainty many face in real life.
This project is more than just a film; it is my tribute to the friend we lost and a call to all of us to recognize that behind every smile, there could be a hidden battle. I hope that through this film, audiences will not only feel the shock and sadness but also reflect on the importance of empathy and understanding in a world where pain often remains unseen.
