Director Biography - Julie Joohee Jeon

Julie Joohee Jeon is a first-time director and a film composer who has worked on renowned films based in South Korea. Growing up in Vancouver, Canada as a Korean-Canadian, Julie has always been passionate about storytelling through the power of music, film, and creative medium.
Julie earned a Bachelor of Music in Integrated Studies of Voice Performance and Music Education from the University of Calgary in 2013. She also gained a certificate in conducting from Capilano University in Vancouver, Canada in 2011. She then pursued her Master of Music in Scoring for Film and Multimedia at New York University, which she completed in 2016.
In addition to her work in music, Julie has written her film scripts, fuelled by her desire to tell stories through the medium of film. 'Happen to Happen' (2023) marks Julie’s directorial debut, and she is excited to bring her vision to life and take on new challenges.

‘Happen to Happen’ is a heartwarming film that explores the theme of personal growth and the unexpected journeys that shape our lives. The film's central idea is that while we may have a clear goal in mind, the path we take to get there can be full of surprises, mistakes, accidents, unforeseen events and the influence of our environment. However, these obstacles often serve as opportunities for growth and change.
Through the story of Noori, the film illustrates the transformative power of embracing the unexpected and learning from our experiences, even when they don't go according to plan. By witnessing her personal evolution, the audience is invited to share in the warmth and emotional resonance of the film.
In addition to this theme of personal growth, ‘Happen to Happen’ also emphasizes the importance of human connection and the role that others play in our lives. The film highlights the idea that we are all interconnected and that our lives are enriched by the relationships we form with others, be they human or otherwise.
