Long live the female gaze
Hannah Kugel is a French director whose multi-format projects centre primarily on feminism. A graduate of the Media Institute in Paris with a BA in Journalism, and a minor in documentary filmmaking, she earned a dual MA in Contemporary History and Politics in London, and a MA in Creative Production from Catalyst, in Berlin. Her early work in documentary filmmaking led to a stint in advertising, which opened her practice to new creative techniques and a pull towards more artistic and personal storytelling. While she continues to explore the documentary format, her directing experience has evolved to include dance videos, music videos and short films, where she deftly mixes genres to create a colourful, playful visual landscape full of humour and poetry.
