Hacking the New Jim Code
How can Afrofuturism pave the way for a society free of biased technology? The New Jim Code, coined by Dr. Ruha Benjamin reproduces existing inequalities that often discriminate against Black people via new technologies, such as facial recognition and health care algorithms. We discuss the legacies of slavery and underrepresentation of minorities in software and sci-fi, to envision an Afrofuturist world where technology is community (and not capitalist) driven.
