Haabit for life_ Along the Amlong RIver

Surrounded by sacred forests, the Amlong river hosts a rich diversity of flora and fauna, with many on the endangered list. The reason is the rampant clearing of forestland for Jhum cultivation and monocropping. Serlibon Timungpi, a Green Hub alumnus along with other community members from Amlong, share stories of their efforts toward forest regeneration and the protection of Amlong’s biodiversity.

Green Hub fellow from batch 2018-2019, Hemant Chakma from Assam, made a short film on the pilot plans and activities of Serlibon and other members of the community, as they contemplate the fine line between development and conservation, for life along the Amlong River.

Director Statement

This film was made for educational and awareness purpose. Through this film I tried to highlight the issue of deforestation that is happening in this area through the local community's perspective as it is only a few years till the forest completely disappears. So before it gets too late, I want to tell people the importance of forest and the importance of conserving it. And nothing can be better to convey this message other than the visual medium and the community's participation.
