HUSH!

SYNOPSIS by Nursel Doğan
Zere and her family live in a small Kurdish village of the city of Ağrı . Zere has a particular interest in music and sounds of nature, and she plays whatever she finds at home that she gets a rhythmical sound. All her family members complain that she makes too much noise. She’s always ordered to do the chores.
One day, Zere finds an erbane at a closet in their house, and she’s thrilled with it. She teaches herself to play it. As a religious old woman, her granny keeps scolding her for causing them to sin.
One day, as she’s watching over her little sibling, Zere starts daydreaming while playing the erbane. The baby in the cradle starts crying. Zere doesn’t notice. Her little brother Paşa sees them, and he tells granny on Zere. Granny gets angry, grabs the erbane and throws it out to the stream beside the house. Zere runs after the erbane which is floating away in the water, but she can’t catch it. Desperately she comes back home, and starts crying, throwing herself down at the doorstep. After a while, her little brother Paşa brings her the soaking erbane. Zere is delighted. They smile at each other.
