HUNGRY is a story inspired in the Mexican tradition The Day of the Death, I felt very connected to the story since the beginning, as I am Mexican and this is one of my favorite traditions. Mexicans are not afraid of the death, they embrace and laugh at it. It is believed that once a year, all our relatives that have passed away, come to visit us and spend time amongst us, it is a time for family and friends to pray and remember their beloved people who have died and help support their spiritual journey.

HUNGRY gives a twist to this tradition, where instead of the souls to come to the real world, it is the living people that go and visit their beloved ones that have passed to the other side, not to remember them but to say their final goodbye and let go.

In this short, I want to portray some elements of this beautiful and colorful tradition, combined with a dark world where all kind of souls inhabit, souls that haven‘t been able to continue with their spiritual journey.

For the look of the film, I found inspiration in the movie INSIDIOUS, where you feel someone that is not human is watching you and wants to get you, as they crave for people with light. Stranger things also played a key role in the look of the short film, as I was looking for a black void where you are not able to see anything or anyone around you. Under the skin was a reference on how to display the monster, as I only wanted to have a silhouette, because I believe the less you show, the more the people can imagine, and they create their own image of the monster in their heads.
