Experiencing Interruptions?

HOME: Stories of Newcomers to NL

Produced by the Association for New Canadians and filmed by Conor McCann and Rodrigo Iniguez, HOME presents familiar local images, scenes, and recognizable landmarks alongside the ever-changing cultural landscape of modern day Newfoundland & Labrador. Exploring overarching themes of language, community, culture, and work, this 25-minute documentary features firsthand accounts of arrival, integration, and settlement in St. John’s, Gander, Corner Brook, and Labrador City. Building on the grassroots documentary work of UNSEEN featured in The Overcast in 2016, interviewees Omar (Syria), Amira (Egypt), Saleh (Iraq) Mo (Syria), Najwa (Iraq), George (Myanmar) German (Philippines) Moody (Egypt) and Lisa (Zimbabwe), discuss the opportunities and challenges of adapting to life in the province from the perspectives of student, parent, worker, professional, refugee, and new Canadian.

HOME was produced primarily to educate the public on issues relating to diversity and immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.
