Gusheng Village: Fighting Fate
Nestled in a rocky corner of southwest China's Guizhou Province, Gusheng Village was long held hostage by its inhospitable environment, surrounded by barren hills and beset by natural disasters. Local attempts to cultivate what little arable land they had only exacerbated the problem, as severe erosion took its toll. Yet today, this once impoverished village is a prosperous haven, its “bald mountains” transformed into “long-haired beauties” covered in lush fruit forests. How did they achieve this green development miracle?
