Returning for its fifth year, Greenhorn will be bringing it's signature programme of high quality shorts with an unusual slant by first time and emerging short film makers to ArtHouse Crouch End (Best Cinema, Time Out 2014). The Festival will take place from 11-15th November and will also encompass cross arts events, panel discussions, workshops and networking and industry opportunities. Greenhorn's Patron Mike Leigh says of the festival:

“Greenhorn is stimulating, original, healthily anarchic and sharp as a
row of needles. In short, a breath of fresh air”.

Greenhorn is an international festival, showcasing films from all over the globe. We are looking for short films by first time and early career stage film makers of any genre: documentary, drama, comedy, artist moving image and more. Shorts must be under 15 minutes long and must have been completed after January 2013.

Greenhorn Short Film Festival was founded by Alix Taylor and Flora Bradwell in 2011 with the principal aim of celebrating new and emerging filmmaking talent. The festival provides a platform for the best upcoming filmmakers to screen and discuss their work in a professional and friendly environment. Accessibility is key to Greenhorn and we aim to keep ticket prices and submissions fees as low as possible. Through the annual festival Greenhorn also hopes to expand knowledge and appreciation of short film, hoping that our passion for a beautifully crafted short film rubs off on audiences attending our events.

Last year's festival saw the return of Greenhorn favourites such as One-on-one Script Feedback Sessions with LFS's Jonathan Hourigan and the Official Greenhorn Selection; as well as innovative cross arts events including Animation Freakatorium in collaboration with Flabbergast Theatre Company and Crafternoon Cabaret Club for Greenhorn featuring the Twins Macabre. We also had a host of free events from Five Fatal Flaws, a script workshop with Charles Harris to Greenhorn Short Meets a speed networking event that gave filmmakers a chance to chat about future projects and make new contacts.

“If there was ever a sign that the future of UK filmmaking is exceptionally bright, the Greenhorn Film Festival Official Selection was it.”
