James Crebbin is a young film maker from Leicester, UK. He started writing films when he was 8 years old and started directing his own short films shortly after.
James attends the annual Phoenix Film Camp whereby he co-wrote and directed “Undead General” in 2018, co-wrote and edited “Enter” in the 2020 camp and co-wrote and edited "The Set" in the 2021 camp. He also co-wrote the plot for "Leaders" in 2022 and finally was involved in "The Alligator" and wrote "Cosmic Flash" in the 2023 Camp.
James released his first short film 'Breached - The Murder Mysteries with no Murders' in 2021. It was featured in the 'First Time Film-Makers Session of June 2021'. Granny with a Grievance is his second short-film, which was premiered at the Phoenix Cinema Leicester in April of 2023.
Granny with a grievance was written in the Summer of 2021. It is a comedy/thriller set in a rural village. It follows Margaret Huxtable who after years of suspicion eventually confronts the person she suspects stole her money. I always wanted to write a film set in a rural village. Despite me coming from the city, I spent a substantial amount of time in the countryside either at school or visiting my grandparents. Many of the characters you will see in the film are in fact satirical representations of real people I met during my upbringing. The film was shot in various villages around Leicestershire, most notably, Market Bosworth, Rearsby, Birstall & Thurlaston. The interior sections were filmed in Heslington Hall at the University of York. Filmed in the Summer, Autumn and Winter of 2022, Granny with a Grievance is a film designed to make the audience laugh and get lost in an entertaining story. It also hopes to expose some of the petty squabbles you might find present in village life. My role as a film-maker is to allow the audience to have a giggle, get lost in a story, and to forget about the outside world for 20 minutes. It was a pleasure to assembly the cast and crew, and I applaud their dedication and hard work. It was great fun, and I hope they think so too!
