I recently graduated with a bachelors degree in film and video production from Grand Valley State University. While in school I had various opportunities to work on different short films. Through those experiences I was able to discover that I loved writing and directing.
I am a writer and director. I grew up in a small town in Michigan which has influenced me significantly. I am inspired by life and I like portraying real people’s lives and problems in my work. I focus on creating characters that have a realistic nature to them. I do not fear portraying human existence and problems if they are true to life. I am always trying to find great stories and characters that people can relate to.
My approach to filmmaking is creating something that people connect to. It can be a superhero, an alien in space, or a normal teenage girl as long as there is a connection made between the character and the audience. My work varies greatly from one project to the next. Recently, I have found interest in realism and creating a world that is familiar. I found that I can use film as an outlet for my creativity. Film has brought me an opportunity to look closely into the culture we live in.
