Director Statement

Gomika Started life as a VR animated film, but the computers at school (although powerful) the Xeon processor cant do VR well. So I switched to Stop motion animation. I was 3 month in to building large sets with built in lights and multiple puppets when covid19 hit. Having to leave campus meant also leaving behind my sets and most of my puppets and starting over in 2D. This change meant all new character designs, BG, visual development for this new medium on a very short deadline. It is very limited in animation, but for the short turnaround on this project, I am very proud.

Even the music changed from a rhyming narration style to something where every instrument represents a different character. The Bassoon is the worker bot, the Cello is the boss bot (both played by Amanda way), and the acoustic guitar is Gomika. I am very happy with how it turned out, showing Gomika is not running on the same rhythm as the worker bots.

During the films credits you can see the various changes that went through with various tests and one of the actual scenes I was able to animate in stop motion at the very end.

I am proud of this little film and hope you can see all the hard work that went into it.

Thank you for watching!
