Golden Lies

This film represents the Dionysian Spirit proposed by Nietzsche. Human beings who are consistently seeking for the pure truth and love break taboos and indulge their desires in ‘This shore’. They immerse themselves into an irrational state of sorrow and ecstasy. However, the unadulterated truth and utopia they have spent their whole life pursuing do not exist, it is just a golden and beautiful lie which is another desire....

Each generation has its own stories to tell about people who, by nature, either yearn for pure love and beauty or long for "ultimate peace of mind". Such instincts make their lives in the real world (that is, this shore in the film) equal to square pegs in round holes, so they seek solace in creations from the agony of their souls, such as art, literature, philosophy, and religion, where they find true belonging.
But in fact, pure love & beauty, Utopia, and even the "ultimate peace of mind" are sheer mirages pictured by their diverse cravings for completing their personality. Once finding their long belief dwindling into nothingness, albeit still at the loose end with their untamed nature, they finally lose their shelters and become "oscillators". This unbearable pain and entanglement make them lose their mind and then surrender themselves to Dionysian impulse on this shore ever after.
In the end, it is all because they are endowed with the instinct to seek pure and unadulterated truth, goodness, and beauty, instead of something that really exists. It's totally a deception, leading to the cruel fate which these "oscillators" can only accept. They have to stay on this shore, continuing their everlasting painful Carnival.

A lot of metaphors were used in this film. For example, the green and purple grape respectively symbolize the desire of this shore (i.e., the real world), and the desire for the other shore (i.e., the ultimate truth and love). The compass symbolizes rationality. The whole environment is in darkness, implying the Plato's Cave….
