Gods & Mortals

‘Gods & Mortals’ is first and foremost, a love letter to anyone who watches it. The rhythm and visual flow of the film is meant to take you on a ride through your emotions and speak to your soul. This project had begun in the classroom. The whole team together decided that we wanted to talk to the audience as true friends. We had held a writer’s room session right after our producing class and had sat down to brainstorm ideas. The whole team knew who we wanted our target audience to be; the youth of our generation.

This fueled the vital question that would ensure our ideas would sustain well, ‘What does our audience need to hear, and how can we say it without them rolling their eyes?’

We zoned in on one particular issue that seemed to hang over the youths of our city like a dark cloud; drug abuse. A cloud that alters the minds of many.

The visual and aural treatment we wanted to give our film was heavily inspired by the NOWNESS short film, ‘Dépaysée’. The serene and calm nature of the voiceover juxtaposed with visually exciting cinematography truly captivated our attention, and we knew it would do the same for our viewers.

Growing up while traveling the world and coming across individuals from all walks of life. I am a keen observer of people and can quickly figure out how to empathise with them.

This became a beneficial strength during the making of this film, enabling me to instantly point out when the audience’s attention was going away and amend the narrative accordingly.

I hope our friends and their friends see this film so that they may understand that they are not alone in this world. As humans first, then purpose-driven individuals, this film focuses on guiding one’s stream of consciousness down the path that may lead them to inner peace.
