Onthatile Omolemo Nthathe is a writer, director, producer and co-founder of Blackhut films. She enrolled at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2014 where she studied Film and Television Production and completed her BTech in 2017, scooping several team awards throughout her studies. She graduated and received her Film and Television Production BTech Cum Laude in 2018.
Omolemo is a 2022 Durban FilmMart Institute Business Lab participant and she is currently working on various productions, including documentaries, short live action and animation films in her capacity as writer, director and producer.
Omolemo is a creative and a business woman whose interest in filmmaking was spark at a very young age, by her father's passion and work as a videographer and photographer.
Omolemo was a part of theatrical plays at Iona Convent School as well as one of the school’s ambassadors and prefects, honing her leadership and interpersonal skills. She was a member of the TUT Film and Drama Awards committee in 2016 and one of her 2017 highlights was achieving 100% in her Bachelor of Technology Research Methods Micro Dissertation: Directing the motion capture actor in live-action animation films.
She has worked externally as intern Director and Assistant Art Director, interning on big commercial sets and short films. Among her achievements are: Winning Best 1st year production (a team award for the production of a Rhino endangerment awareness short documentary in which she was the Editor) at TUT; Best 2nd year production (a team award for a Sci-fi short film "Wake" in which she was the Art Director); Best 3rd year production "The Offering", a thriller, suspense short film in which she was the Cinematographer); Best 4th year short production, a bio pic on Leon van Nierop in which she was the Director of Photography. She has written, produced, directed and shot several productions throughout university, including green screen, a magazine insert and short films.
