Give Me Thunder

While touring in Bozeman, Montana-born drummer Marley Dormer gets swept up in her bandmate's overnight crisis and ultimately decides to confront the demons of her past.

Our majority-women student crew wanted to make a film about vulnerable and irresponsible young women navigating an unforgiving world together. And there’s no better aesthetic to represent womanhood’s trademark blend of edge and raw emotion than rock.

Give Me Thunder is a thank-you to the rocker chicks and riot grrrls that came before us, who broke down the doors we now get to walk through.

Director Biography - Kate Burney

My first and most formative education was the library copy of Jim Henson’s "The Storyteller" that Mama would pop in the old DVD player for a few hours of peace. I love storytelling in all its many forms, and I've developed a passionate curiosity for the ways that stories impact our lives and our sense of place.

Director Statement

Give Me Thunder was meant as an exploration of a young woman's relationship with toughness and vulnerability. At this turning point in my life, I was curious: in some of the most extreme circumstances, how can sisterhood anchor us? Marley's story, told by a majority-women cast & crew (with much of the new MSU Women in Film Club), has been a source of strength and community in a turbulent time at Montana State.
