Girls painting culture is a documentary about the women who write graffiti in the city of La Plata, but it is also much more than that. It is my story and that of the girls who accompanied me and joined in telling it.
For those of us who have contributed at some point, in whatever way, to the promotion of this movement, we know of its male predominance and how difficult it is to make room for us. That we always have to make room for kicks and sometimes it's very tiring. This violence is reflected in the audiovisuals, not only in how the male gaze represents women but also in the lack of representation. For example, one of the reasons that motivated me to make this short film is that in Argentina there are no audiovisuals on Hip Hop directed or starring women and that these productions are scarce worldwide. It's time to change it.
Having done this work means a sororo encounter with the women who inhabit hip hop culture, each in her own way but with wounds and struggles in common. It represents my pain made into a movie. And the grief I refused to passively experience. An invitation to reflect, resist and have fun, why not.
