Girls on Film
Taking its name from Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film,” this short film explores what it means to be exploited in both the digital and physical world. Believing that visiting the woman of her desire in the digital world is the only way to be with her, a VR headset-wearing woman ‘traps’ a physical woman in a digital space and manipulates aspects of the desired woman’s life. The desired woman then finds she is caught in random access loops of herself. Girls on Film explores what it might be like to breach the natural barrier of our bodies – specifically, women’s bodies – and what it might mean to open them up for technological innovation in new ways. What do we give away as we consent to adoption of new technology in our lives and how does this change what is means to be a ‘user’ or ‘consumer?’
