The Gimli Film Festival is widely recognized as the most successful film festival in Manitoba, Canada, and the largest rural Film Festival in all of Canada! It is our mandate to support filmmakers by paying minimum IMAA screening fees to ALL films that screen as part of our festival!
It is our aim to bring critical, boundary-pushing cinema to our local audiences in the beautiful summer lakeside community of Gimli, Manitoba. We annually showcase the best narrative, documentary and experimental feature and short films from around the world.
We have dedicated annual series focused on Icelandic cinema, social justice documentaries, Indigenous cinema, woman-driven cinema, films from the Circumpolar region, environmental films and in 2019 a new series of Director's of Colour. Our theme for 2019 is "Cinema Outside the Box", which will present a focus on expanded cinema, media arts installation, VR and other audio-visual experimentation that presses the bounds of traditional cinema.
**Please note, single-channel videos and films are NOT eligible for our "Cinema Outside the Box" category and will be disqualified.
