Director Biography - Tracie Laymon

Named to the Independent Film Channel (IFC) list of emerging "Icons" and Film Innovators, Tracie Laymon is an independent director and screenwriter hailing from Austin, Texas. She interned for Richard Linklater’s Detour Film (“Boyhood”, “Dazed and Confused”) and worked as a photographer and video journalist for Time Warner News while studying Radio-TV-Film at the University of Texas at Austin.

Projects Tracie directed after school have won Jury Awards at South by Southwest (SXSW), Feel Good Film Festival as well as Las Vegas, Houston, and Memphis Film Festivals. Her early short films also premiered at Fantastic Fest and Dallas International Film Festival. She received a nomination for the Milan International Film Festival Award and won the Jury Award for Short Film of the Year from the Women's Image Network.

Tracie directed the web-based sitcom "Goodnight Burbank", featuring Dominic Monaghan ("Lost", "Lord of the Rings") and Laura Silverman ("Curb Your Enthusiasm", "The Sarah Silverman Program"). The show was first half hour comedy for Hulu when it premiered. It was also acquired by Mark Cuban for HDNet. Tracie then directed a featured segment of the anthology film "Girls!Girls!Girls!” starring Elaine Hendrix ("Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll", "The Parent Trap"), which was acquired and distributed by Indican Pictures.

Her most recent short film, "Mixed Signals", premiered at LA Shorts Film Festival in July of 2018 and won the Award for Best Director at Women Texas Film Festival in 2018. It recently received acknowledgement from the Texas House of Representatives as a result of its inclusion and award at MPAC, which celebrates the intersection of entertainment and activism. She also received the award for Best Female Director at the Independent Shorts Awards as well as Best Director at Method Fest in 2019.

Tracie is casting her feature directorial debut, which she also wrote and which won Best Screenplay at the LA Comedy Festival. She is also currently in post-production on a new comedic TV pilot she directed called “Matched” about a family-owned high-end matchmaking service, as well as an original and stylized short film called “Ghosted”, produced by Alex Lake.
