Ghost Roommate
In the midst of a housing crisis, Oliver Davies, a young social media addict, stumbles upon a miraculously affordable rental house. Seizing the opportunity, he moves in without hesitation, only to be confronted with an unexpected twist – his new roommate is none other than a lively ghost named Winston.
Written and directed by Kaia Walton (17 years old at the time of filming), Ghost Roommate brings together two characters from vastly different worlds and eras. Oliver and Winston soon find themselves engaged in spirited arguments. Unbeknownst to them, their clashes mask a profound need for each other's companionship.
In this short mockumentary, we delve into themes that explore the generation gap and the all-consuming obsession with social media.
Drawing inspiration from the cinematic brilliance of Taika Waititi, known for his films like "Boy," "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," and "What We Do in the Shadows," and filming techniques influenced by TV show "The Office," Kaia Walton immerse the audience in Oliver and Winston's extraordinary cohabitation - unearthing the true essence of friendship, no matter how unconventional it may appear.
