Ghazal Partou is an award-winning Iranian-Canadian actress, director, and multidisciplinary artist whose career bridges cinema, theatre, visual art, and performance. Her work is distinguished by its emotional depth, visual sensitivity, and commitment to exploring hidden dimensions of human experience.
She has received numerous awards, including the Special Mention Lead Actress award at the Five Continents International Film Festival; the Best Acting Award from the Ark Gate International Film Festival; the First Place Winner of the Third Toronto Arts Foundation/TELUS Newcomer Artist Award; the First Prize at the 2nd Annual Online Iranian Contemporary Art Competition; and the First Prize at the 6th National Sculpture Biennial of Iran.
Her latest film project, Amphibious, written, directed, and produced by her, was celebrated at 18 international film festivals. It earned multiple honors, including the Award of Best Indie Short from the International Tokyo Cinema Awards, the Award of Distinction from the Canada International Shorts Film Festival, the Best Empowering Movie award at the Vienna Indie Short Film Festival, and both Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress awards at the New World Film Festival.
Beyond her achievements as an artist, Partou has contributed to the arts community by serving as a jury member at the AGIFF International Film Festival and the RBC Arts Access Fund/Toronto Arts Foundation.
Ghazal Partou earned her B.A. degree in Sculpture and studied Acting in Iran, and later pursued advanced studies at the Toronto Film School. Her extensive knowledge of visual art and drama has empowered her to broaden her creative horizons. Alongside her work in cinema, she has actively created thought-provoking performance art, site-specific installations, and interdisciplinary projects that merge narrative, space, and visual language. Driven by a search for emotional and conceptual authenticity, Partou’s work consistently aims to uncover invisible layers of human experience, transcending cultural boundaries, challenging established forms, and inviting audiences into spaces of reflection and transformation.
