“Unmarried Couples Not Allowed” explores the intersection of societal taboos and supernatural
dread. It reflects on the constraints society imposes on relationships that defy traditional norms
like marriage, highlighting the lengths individuals will go to assert their desires and autonomy.
The story follows an inter-faith couple seeking privacy, set against the backdrop of a
dilapidated, haunted house symbolizing their rebellion and vulnerability. The supernatural
elements intensify the narrative, amplifying their fears and mirroring the societal judgment they
face. As the director, my aim was to provoke thought and discussion about the challenges
faced by couples who defy orthodox societal expectations - many hotels still refuse to give
unmarried couples room for rent, despite there being no legal provision to do so. The film
delves into the universal theme of love versus societal constraints, using horror as a metaphor
for the alienation and fear experienced by those outside conventional boundaries.
