Gerry Ciccimarra was born in Altamura, Italy on the 26th of June, 1999.
Gerry's initial foray into the world of cinema began at the age of 17, when he started creating music videos and short films. It was during this time that he forged a lasting partnership with a fellow classmate, now a cinematographer, with whom he continues to collaborate closely. During his formative years, he developed a profound interest in cinema, particularly in silent films and German expressionist cinema.
Eager to pursue studies in filmmaking, he studied Set Design in Lecce and graduated with top honors, focusing his thesis on the Uncanny in cinema. Gerry furthered his education by attending a master's program in Film Production at the Aspasia Academy, where he had the opportunity to connect with prominent directors and producers in the Salento region. Currently, he is enrolled in a Master of Arts program in Sciences of Performing Arts and Audiovisual Production at the University of Salento, where he is nearing the completion of his thesis project.
Since 2023, Gerry has been closely collaborating with local entities in Puglia, creating short films rooted in history and folklore. His themes revolve around attention to folklore, superstition, and ancient popular beliefs, exploring human relationships, themes of solitude, and individuals grappling with the acceptance of reality. Gerry's artistic vision often incorporates elements of magical realism, exploring themes of rebirth and the transformative power of embracing a new life.
He explores ritualistic practices born from error, outdated convictions, and irrational behaviors, acknowledging how magic, once revered and now dismissed as superstition, remains a vital lens through which to understand reality across diverse cultures.
Currently, he is working as the Director of Photography on the set of the Fantasy-Horror film The Blind Sun.
