George began his television career in the 1980s as a freelance Cameraman NBC News in the Caribbean and Latin America. He covered hundreds of national and international stories from the Mariel boatlift from Cuba, to the fall of the Sandinista regime in Nicaragua, from the Iran Contra Affair to the overthrow of “Baby Doc” Duvalier in Haiti. He was there when Mel Fisher discovered the wreck of the Atocha and he won the National Press Photographer’s Award for “Fragile Monarch”, an NBC documentary chronicling the migration of Monarch Butterflies from Canada to the mountains of Mexico.
An avid scuba diver George developed his own proprietary underwater video camera housing system and called it the Sea-Cam for which he holds the US patent and with which he produced numerous underwater programs and won numerous underwater cinematography awards. Through his company, Sea-Cam, Inc., he produced the “Sea-Cam Journal” underwater television series which aired on the Travel Channel for over three years and gained him several Telly Awards. His children’s special “The Funniest and Friendliest Fish in the Sea” was licensed by Nickelodeon and gained him another Telly.
Spending so much time in the edit room crafting these longer projects, George became a skilled online editor and built a state-of-the-art facility within a larger post house, known as Video QuickLab in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where he became chief editor and eventually head of post production. He later parted ways with QuickLab and formed Media Solutions, a cutting edge digital production company specializing in digital acquisition, digital post-production, and digital delivery of electronic media for companies wishing to promote and market themselves via the internet.
Seeing the direction of digital media, George knew it was only a matter of time before feature films would be shot and edited digitally. This is what prompted him to be one of the first South Florida purchasers of the revolutionary Red Digital Cinema camera in 2008. George became highly skilled in shooting and editing on the Red Digital system and was one of the first people in the world to take a Red Camera underwater, with a housing of his own design. Now he is able to work as quickly and efficiently under the water as he does above, both on television and motion picture projects.
