Generation Hack

In the near future, bio-hacking has been legalized, thanks to pharmaceutical companies and their pursuit to halt incurable diseases. This has opened up the doors for a huge black market industry. Director Statement

Generation Hack first began to take shape after learning about the concept of bio-hacking. Neil Harbisson, known as the world's first cyborg. was born colorblind. He is an artist that has an antenna-like implant bio-hacked into his brain that allows him to see colors. Many others have followed in Neil's footsteps including another man who lost an eye and now has a camera in its place. The idea that you could bio-hack your own body to enhance yourself became so interesting to me. As I researched further, Upgrades, the first version of Generation Hack, really started to come together. While I wrote the script, I had been spending a good amount of time visiting my friend, Rob Mannanice, in Jersey City. In 2018, Jersey City was in the midst of gentrification and it was an eclectic mix of rundown slums, construction and beautiful streets with artistic graffiti. I quickly realized that the two would perfectly meld together to create the world in which these characters lived. Knowing the script would be a near-future cyberpunk film, it was detrimental that I shoot a proof of concept short before even attempting to get funding for a feature. But, just as we were about to move into post production, the pandemic hit and the film was soon put on the backburner. For a few years, I lost hope in ever finishing it. Life and business took hold and making narrative works was not in the forefront of my mind any longer. Not until recently, with the injection of AI into the art space, did Generation Hack feel possible again. I brought on my longtime filmmaking friend, Justin Ho, to help finish the proof of concept and get us to festivals to begin looking for a home for the feature film.
