High school and college-aged youth with a passion for filmmaking are invited to submit their short films to the Gateway Film Festival, at Pacific University Oregon. This is the festival’s first year, and we aim to capture the love of filmmaking through the eyes of young people. The goal of our festival is to give young filmmakers a voice and allow their art to enrich our community.

We are student run and organized event. Our festival started as a class at Pacific University, a small liberal arts college In Oregon. Guided by professors, students created the festival from concept to execution. The Gateway Film Festival provides not only opportunities for young filmmakers to screen their work, but also provides the student festival organizers an opportunity to engage in experiential learning, leadership, civic engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The festival is supported by the Pacific University Media Arts Department and is co-sponsored by many other university departments and clubs, and community partners. We are proud to be a platform for the creators of the future.

Event Date: October 12th and 13th 2018
Deadline for Entries: September 2018

The Festival features a Community Connection award and accept entries in the Documentary, Narrative, Animation, Experimental categories. Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the festival judges.

ENTRY REGULATIONS

ALL entries must be from High School or College age youth Ages 14-25. Any youth is eligible to submit a film, regardless of filmmaking experience or film classes taken.

Please see the various categories for more information on submitting to each of the sections. It is important that you determine your film’s category when you submit it, as that determines eligibility for awards.

Only films with a runtime (including credits) of 15 minutes or under will be considered.

The Gateway Film Festival reserves the right to not screen films that it finds overly offensive, obscene, vulgar, or if it promotes hate language.

Films that have previously screened in other festivals are still eligible.

Individual filmmakers can submit a maximum of 3 films. Films must have been completed after January of 2016.

COPYRIGHT

It is expected that filmmakers hold all of the respective rights required for their film before submitting. This includes all music, sound effects, product placement, actor/model release forms, etc. For music, there are a number of fair use soundtrack sites with music available online for free (we recommend reaching out to student musicians as well). Filmmakers without these rights will not be able to screen their films.
