Director Statement

In Kafka’s story the gatekeeper is an imposing Tartar male and most likely a dangerous warrior - guarding the law (of the state) with military force. In the film, the gatekeeper is performed by a girl of fragile physique Nadia, who is an Ashkenazi Jewess. She is naked and tied up to a column on a side of the gate what suggests a different power (play) of knowledge that originates from vulnerability and language games.
