Born in Macao, Ma Wai In (Gali) is a playwright, screenwriter, director, and actress for theater and film, passionate about experimenting with narrative forms. Her works explore themes of technology, folklore, and fairytales from female perspectives.
In 2016, her first play, “A Freestyle Buddha,” won the 2nd prize at the Macao Literature Awards. Since then, her plays have been staged at various major arts festivals in Macao and Taiwan. In 2020, she was selected by the Golden Horse Academy, one of Asia's most prestigious film festivals.
She went on to write the short film “Melody’s Melody,” which was nominated for Best Actress at the Taipei Film Festival. Her second directorial work, “Natasha,” had its international premiere at the Osaka Film Festival in Japan. It later received both the Audience Choice Award and the Youth Jury Award at the Macao Films & Videos Panorama 2023.
In 2024, her new short film project, “Pop it,” was awarded funding by the International Film Camp held by the Asian Film Awards Academy. Currently, she is working on the TV series “Tales in the Dark” as a writer, director, and producer, aiming to push the boundaries of storytelling and media.
