Director Statement

GUMRAAJ is, in many ways, a reflection of the world I see around me — and within me. It's a story that, I believe, mirrors the quiet moral compromises that many of us make every day. I've witnessed friends, family, and even myself fall out of step with conscience, driven by impulses, distractions, or indifference. With GUMRAAJ, I wanted to explore the darker, more uncomfortable truths we often shy away from — themes like unchecked desire, and our increasingly reckless disregard for the world we inhabit.

What began as a passion project with just four people and a powerful idea soon turned into one of the most personal and emotionally charged films I’ve made. Film is the language I speak, the medium I live in — it felt only natural to channel this story through it.

The process was long and demanding. For nearly a year, my team and I worked with minimal resources and no promise of financial return — only a shared belief in the importance of the story we were telling. Their commitment and spirit were nothing short of inspiring. I’m deeply grateful to them, and to the friends and family who stood by us, offering everything from support to shelter.

The response to GUMRAAJ so far — especially during our private screenings — has been overwhelming. Audiences connected with it, sometimes uncomfortably, but always honestly. I’m incredibly proud to now share this film more widely and look forward to hearing how it resonates with others.
