Eli Pollard has experimented with photography since he was in elementary school, and filmmaking was soon to follow. Pollard initially chose to pursue his passion for the more direct & immediate art forms of painting and printmaking, and pursued a career in art. Pollard continued to experiment with photography & video, but when he started performing music with a band, this really helped to expand his video experiments beyond art galleries. Pollard began creating films to project behind his live music performances, as well as creating music videos for the songs he and his bandmates created. Pollard had his second child in early 2023. She, in part, inspired him to create a children’s animated series. Pollard also finally found that with new, accessible, technological advancements, he could create a film without the budget and big crew that he never had. Pushing hard through 2023 on his new animation project, Pollard created episode one of ‘Green Green Gardens’ less than a year from the date of his daughter’s birth. Much to his surprise, his animation project won several awards at multiple film festivals, but the experimenting didn’t stop. After the release of the animation, Pollard continued to try new techniques to create an improved version of the children’s episode that had much more naturalistic imagery and movements. Since the release of episode one of Green Green Gardens, he created an entirely new version of the pilot, as well as writing the script for all of season one and part of season two. His daughter approves of the final product and often requests to see it by pointing at his laptop & exclaiming, “Hop Hop! Hop Hop! Hop Hop!”
Just before my daughter’s birth, my wife & I were scrolling through some old cartoons & we were feeling somewhat stunned by some of the content that was created for kids. As parents, we want the best for our children. I made a conscious effort to create something that my daughter could enjoy at any age, and something that anyone, of any age could enjoy. I got to work animating what would hopefully not only be somewhat of a love letter to my daughter, but also a message of peace, love, and understanding in a time of unspeakable wars. I have since recrafted the pilot, and written the script for a full season of the show, as well as part of season two. I’m very grateful for your time, consideration, and attention for these few moments while you watch Green Green Gardens. Thank you so much!
