Director Biography - Dylan Crosby, Kyler Wilton

Dylan Crosby is a 20-year-old student from Regina, currently studying at the University of Saskatchewan. Having spent most of his early formative years writing, drawing, and making short videos with his siblings, Dylan found ways to turn his elementary school projects into video projects with critical acclaim from his fellow 12 year old classmates. In high school, he delved deeper into multimedia creation for classes, further igniting a passion and appreciation for film. After accidentally taking classes in engineering for 2 years, he is ready to get back into filmmaking.

Kyler Wilton, 20 years old, has held interest in film since he first watched home movies on his grandparent's film projector. Growing up with a love for 80's classics such as 𝘌𝘷𝘪𝘭 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘥, 𝘈𝘪𝘳𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦!, and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘴 helped further ignite his passion for cinema. High school offered Kyler greater opportunities for filmmaking, where he had the resources to start producing higher quality films than he had previously been making, further cementing his lifelong dream of becoming a full-time filmmaker / director.

Meeting during their time at Miller Comprehensive High School, Dylan and Kyler began making films together for their Communications Media classes. To date, the two have been prolific collaborators on a mindblowing total 23 minutes of film.

Director Statement

When we set out on this journey that would lead us to our first real short film, we had no budget, almost no connections, and a very rudimentary set-up. Our gear consisted of an old DSLR that we had used to make shorts in highschool, a cheap shotgun mic, and a gopro.

We knew our vision for this film was ambitious given our circumstances, and it required a high level of persistence and meticulousness from us to be able to see it to completion. As a result, this film is as much an exploration into its character’s obsessions as it is into our own obsessions creating this character and his world. While we want to be able to say there is a resolution to the story, this film does explore themes of mental illness, and we strived to remain honest to these struggles; they are rarely resolved overnight. With that said, we wanted the focus to be on strength, not weakness. We wanted to capture that shred of hope between life's endless bombardments—the small victories one cannot bring themselves to celebrate, exhausted and aware of the many more battles to come.
