GONTA:The Story of the Two-Named Dog in the Fukushima Disaster
2011.3.11, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. The family evacuated, leaving their pet behind, thinking they would be able to return home soon. Later, however, an explosion occurred at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in a radiation leak. The family could not return home, leaving their pet Gonta behind in the disaster area.
Meanwhile, Yuki Yoshino, a university student in Tokyo, joins a volunteer group rescuing pets. Learning that dogs have been left behind, she heads for the evacuation zone. There, she rescues several dogs, including Gonta. However, he is found to be suffering from a disease and is diagnosed as having only one month to live. Will Gonta ever meet his original family?
Twelve years have passed, but the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant has not progressed, and parts of the plant are still designated as a difficult-to-return zone.
