GIRLS
V1
Girls are wild things
Refuse to make up our minds about anything
We feel in color
Shades of blue to infinity
CHORUS
But oh, you don’t understand
Why when the moon rises we dance
And sing
Awoo
Awoo
V2
Girls are fickle creatures
We don’t want that much, just everything
We are the dreamers
Unbound
By your reality
CHORUS
But oh, you don’t understand
Why when the moon rises we dance
And sing
Awoo
Awoo
BRIDGE
Paint my face all
Different colors
And wear them proud
Run barefoot
Through the city
And scream out loud
And when my eyes meet
A stranger’s
I won’t look down
And when your eyes meet
A stranger’s
Don’t you dare look down
Awoo
Awoo

Monica Guardado (Gwar-da-doh) has been described as “a cross between the lyrical whimsy of Regina Spektor with the pop sensibility of Sara Bareilles”. Her vivid and emotionally-driven piano ballads are supported by a backdrop of dreamy instrumentals, resulting in songs that pull the listener towards gentle introspection.
Monica found herself drawn to music at a very young age. At 8 years old, she was introduced to Alicia Keys’ music by her older brother, and that’s what made her decide to take piano lessons. Monica was classically trained for about a decade before starting to write songs, and that is evident in her chamber-pop style of music. She experimented first by forming a small band in highschool, where she and her other two bandmates would collaborate on writing songs, while Monica played keys and sang. In her college years, she continued to expand her musical horizons by singing on EDM tracks, and even fronting as lead vocalist for a jam band for a brief period. But through all these ventures, Monica found herself time and again being drawn to her solo work.
Monica decided to fully commit to her artistry while living in San Francisco. She cut her teeth performing in open mics around town, and within a year, wrote a brand new collection of songs to perform solo sets at local venues such as The Hotel Utah and Neck of the Woods. She relocated to Nashville, TN, in June of 2019, where she continues to write songs, perform live, and grow her fanbase.
Girls receive subliminal messages about what it means to be a woman from a young age. We are taught to be quiet, to be polite, to be beautiful, and to put our needs aside for the comfort of others. The goal of 'GIRLS' is to challenge those notions and affirm that girls are wild, playful, and ambitious, and celebrate it.
